International Recognition The Export Development & Foreign Relations Office of the South Carolina Department of Commerce cultivates, positions, and secures market commitments for state products and services. This effort infuses state businesses with world-class standards and competitive options. Through this increased exposure, state businesses not only enhance their reach but also expand their overall vision. Daily, the staff works to secure buyers in new markets for South Carolina products benefiting the state's businesses, and in successfully doing so received two outstanding national awards for this accomplishment: The President's "E" Award for Export Service & The 2000 Council for Urban Economic Development State Export Trade Gold Award. Who is out there? The state export development team is ever mindful of potential markets and customers for companies in this state no matter what size. It is our mission to not only work with known business opportunities but to develop new ones. To accomplish this endeavor, we offer several different options: Trade Matchmaking Missions - These international matchmaking missions provide one-on-one meetings with key decision makers who possess an ideal product or service for South Carolina delegation members. A delegation is typically comprised of qualifying companies, associations and governmental representatives. Individual appointments, in-depth market briefings, networking events, and logistical support are arranged by the state; Customized Lead Generation - All trade leads are cross-referenced with a database of South Carolina companies and their products. These leads are matched with products produced in the state and sent directly to companies; Market Research and Industry Analysis -  Many businesses are successful locally yet haven't sought additional markets due to uncertainty or unfamiliarity with the expansion process. The South Carolina Department of Commerce eases this transition by studying industry trends, matching export opportunities, and facilitating successful business development;  Trade Shows & Exhibitions -  The state participates in numerous international events every year. At each, the state promotes the product diversity of the state's companies and their sales and customer service capabilities. Every interaction is conducted to benefit businesses within South Carolina.

Foreign Affairs:  International Protocol & Diplomatic Outreach-  The office staff is in regular contact with overseas governments located both in the United States and abroad, as well as in the reverse.  Since business promotion is the primary goal of these governmental representatives, the staff maintains bilateral relationships with these contacts to enhance the trade opportunities for our companies abroad.  Staff is also responsible for a host of incoming international delegations.

South Carolina Foreign Office: South Carolina Department of Commerce Foreign Offices - South Carolina has three strategic foreign offices in Munich, Tokyo and Shanghai that develop and report trade leads from the European, Middle Eastern, African, and Asian-Pacific markets. Staff from these offices also provides foreign buyers with supplier information and offer valuable follow-up assistance.
